Notes & Directions:		The layout: Spot is downstream of the red pin on sinkspots, in between the two islands. The flow splits around the top island, and when it comes back together it forms a big squeeze Ill tentatively call Bermuda South. The river left channel is pinched by some 45 degree rock layers that extend from the left shore, forming a new river gorge-ish wave train that runs about 100 feet. On the river left side of this train is a huge eddy the size of a baseball infield with counterclockwise return service back to the top of the wave train. This swirl takes you along the top of the lower island. The lower end of the upper island has a nice place to empty the boat and take breaks/stash packs/safety break, or just do it from the cobble-y beach by the tracks. Charcs: I knew I had found the goods when my very first drop gave up a 3 second helmet under ride even with my life jacket on... You can tap the RR side of the wave train for a good dunk anywhere from the root at the top of the eddy to 20 feet down the eddy line. The eddy here had some good upstream momentum along with small whirlpools and big boils. The RL side of the wave train also has many entry charcs to try. Going under at the first wave you will clip a rock, 2nd wave on down is deep and clean. 3rd and 4th waves are worth attempting too, at 3000 cfs they seemed to form the strongest squeezes on this side. As your wave train ride plays out you can either take the conveyer belt left and back to the top or move back to river right and mush into Bermuda South, hopefully getting a no travel ride. The squeeze here extends below the point of no return dropping into the next rapid and past the safety of the big eddy back to river left. Helmet under rides are possible at all 3 spots. I also got a couple good neck deep with PFD rides below the bottom island but the convergence is not nearly as strong. There is a small eddy to get back up but its not nearly as effortless or grandiose as the top arena. Access: From Exit 168 on I-81 head east on route 614 then go @ 3 miles. When you cross the bridge over the James park at a public access point on your right. There is a very tempting ATV trail near the river that goes up the river right bank, but on the way home I talked to a local that lives up the road and he said the unfriendly landowner usually carries a shotgun on his ATV... Besides by the time the ATV trail is even with the 2 islands you are in sight of a house AND have to bushwack a tenth of a mile through poisin ivy and stinging nettles. That leaves the railroad track on river left, which is a good 30-40 feet below the bridge, didnt scout out a descent. Its much easier to spot the islands from this side of the river. The next putin upstream is only about 4 miles away at Buchanan, maybe theres more goods along the way? Extras: At this level the train has 2 surfable waves at the top, didnt do much for me in my ninja but kept my buddy in plastic entertained (wave was ideal for a 7-9 foot boat, 6 ft spuds so-so). Most of yall with cruiser bottoms can mix it up with a little surfing up top, maybe some clues? The top island had several flat spots that would be ideal for camping, but Id take a machete to clear out some PI and SN... Hard to bring a canoe on a long road trip out of towners but you could make a comfy home for a few days... The huge deep eddy is allegedly a prime fishing spot if you have a sig. other or buddy whos into that... Its only a HALF MILE upstream of the bridge and 3 MILES from the interstate! Lots of aerobic armpit-neck high rides on the RL wave train, and the lower convergence had no suction either. Just off the interstate, parking lot and an easy jaunt up the tracks to a very cool and shady beach to launch from. Josh has named it well... it is very pretty and magical place, with swirls, pulsing water converging due to the islands and many currents flowing in different directions. This is a really cool spot with tons of potential. The water was coming up the entire time I was there and it remained relatively clear. Spent a lot of time trying to duplicate one ride that chopped in on the RL side of the train at the 2nd wave and took my head 3-4 feet under the wave troughs for 8-10 seconds and surfaced me next to Bermuda South. In a gift from the river, my best ride was my last after Id put on my backpack (maybe I need more shameless ballasting), 3 seconds head under at Bermuda Triangle South. The deep eddy with return service is still in full effect. Getting wavewheels and screwing around on the eddylines is still more fun than getting into the tupperware... The spot below the bottom island had a better squeeze this time around, low flow produced an upstream current that squeezed back into another convergence, the pull was stronger here and I got a few head under rides in only 20 tries on the way out. Didnt probe much because the the current flowed into a bad looking neighborhood.

Notes	Randy, Brad and I spent the morning of fathers day enjoying this new spot for the first time. It was an easy trip. Just off the interstate, parking lot and an easy jaunt up the tracks to a very cool and shady beach to launch from. Josh has named it well... it is very pretty and magical place, with swirls, pulsing water converging due to the islands and many currents flowing in different directions. The neat thing is, we most likely have not seen it at its best level. Keep exploring. We had lots of fun and some great rides. This is a really cool spot with tons of potential. The water was coming up the entire time I was there and it remained relatively clear. Clear water is something I am becoming fastidious about after having some sessions at FA lately. I messed with the wave train for a while without much luck. However, I think the wave train is setup more for a regular left charc, which I suck at. I was using a righty back cut there. Josh and Zander and, darn, already forgot the other guys name, were having better luck with regular lefties with a steep entry. After being frustrated with the wave train I started trying entries at the convergence with the flow coming around the river right side of the island. I started getting really good rides with this convergence, but found it fickle. I was only succesful between 5 and 10% of the time. The rides I did get though, were good ranging from 4 to 6 feet deep and from 5 to 15 seconds. I did have to use the up button once which is a good litmus test for any arena! The other drawback to this convergence; the first being it is very fickle, is that a long ride can mean a flush from your staging eddy. You can attain back up the river right shore and ferry across with a stick but is quite a workout. I only flushed 4 times in 4 hours, so it is not that bad. If I was within an hours drive--I would spend much more time exlporing this spot!
